COMMUNISM AND FINANCE
Sir, —The failure of political par ties of the past to carry out tneii promises and,their consequent disappearance from the scene is traceaote ultimately to the subjection ol their policies to the decrees of International Finance. Whatever promises they made to their supporters whatever policies they intended tc pursue, whatever ideais they set bs ; lore them, the question “Where is the money to come from?” (with implied answer “Nowhere”) was the final word in any projected veni turc, be the physical means (laboul and materials) of carrying it ouj ever so abundant. In 1935 there occurred the first dij rect challenge to the orthodox finally cial system under the title of "Social Credit,” and a Government was returned promising the necessarv reforms. Twelve years have elapseq since then and the promises made have long since been forgotten, aid| ed by the characteristic abundant! of money high finance permits foi the preparation of and conduct of a war.
The public, however, has registered its disappointment; it has reduced the Government to a very precarious tenure of office. It is casting round anew for a political organisation to realise its hopes. The philosophy of Communisms together with its denunciation ol Western capitalism and the orthoj dox financiers, have the appearance of pointing to the desired way, buj there arc great dangers in accepting it without sufficient thought. _ . I It is necessary to guard against m| voicing revolution (the changing everything) when what is really dej sired is evolution (the changing only of that which needs improving).—l am, etc., tttV FIAT LbX. ;
