RUBBER AND THE ATOM BOMB
An interesting point about the atom bomb test at Bikini was the state of the tyres on an Army lorry aboard the carrier “Independence.” According to a special correspondent of tne “Daily Telegraph,” the flight deck was buckled like a piece of crushed tissue paner and an Aimy loiiy had “been crushed down, yet its tyres were perfect They had not burned under the terrifle heat, and they had withstood the terrible pressure exerted upon them from above.
On many ships the fact that rubber stood up to the heat and pressure was noticed.
