Allowing .Children To Play In Cars , Involves A Grave Risk Of Accident
DANGER EXISTS EVEN WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY Children should never be permitted to play in and out of the car, even when it is stationary in their own garage-way. A healthy respect for the delicate mechanism of a car should D inculcated very young. When the youngsters go motoring with their-. parents, tampering with .the doors and windows should be strictly tabu. When car doors are hinged at the back, a trifling amount oi wind can catch it and throw* it back violently, possibly precipitating a child into the roadway. Door handles, too, are often confused with the window lifts, with disastrous iesu s. Where children are permitted to handle doers and windows, they are likely to go a step further and move the hand brake Should the car be parked on a hill, a serious accident would occur. Whenever a car is so parked, the car should bo-mD with a gear engaged and the front wheels locked over. If a uii\ex makes a habit of leaving his car so, he is not in danger of forgetting to de-clutch when using the electric starter and making sure that the gear lever is in neutral before switching on the ignition.
