LEGS AMPUTATED BY TRAIN
GUARD'S DEATH NEAR WHANGAREI (P.A.) Whangarei, April 5. A guard was run over by a railway waggon at Taipuha this afternoon. He died five minutes after being admitted to the Whangarei Hospital. He was Mr George Strawbridge, aged 49, cf Corn Street, Whangarei. He was a married man With five children. Mr Strawbridge was guard on a mixed train that was shunting at Taipuha, about 30 miles south of Whangarei, at 3.50 this afternoon. The porter was at the points and when the guard did not come along with the trucks he looked up and saw Mr Strawbridge lying across the Rne. Nobody saw the accident. ,It was raining at the time. Mr Strawbridge was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital at 6.30. Both his legs were amputated. An inquest will be opened befor? the district coroner, Mr G. H. Morrish, tomorrow morning.
