COAL ARRIVES FOR RAILWAYS
NINE THOUSAND TONS . FROM ENGLAND (P.A.) Auckland, today. Nine thousand tons of English coal which reached Auckland from Inimingham on Saturday morning in the British steamer Broompark has arrived when Railv/ay Department stocks are in a low state. A departmental official stated at the weekend that there was less than a week’s supply of coal in the division between Auckland and Taihape and that the department was looking forward to the landing of the shipment. The Broompark went to anchor on arrival because of port congestion and in normal circumstances would not obtain a berth for at least a week. Some priority may be asked by the Government in obtaining a berth, and the coal will be immediately “distributed equally among the depots at Auckland, Frankton Junction and Taumarunui.
