HINTS ON CARE OF HOSE

RINSING PLAYS IMPORTANT

PART

SPECIAL

ATTENTION TO

LENGTH

No matter how plentiful nylon 'and silk hosiery is, women will always welcome suggestions for the cars of hose that will make this item in a woman’s wardrobe last longer. Working girls, in particular, despair over the hose budget. When Dorothy Lamour makes a present of hose she encloses a slip of paper. This little note contains a list of the famous star’s “prescription” for the care of silk and nylon hose. Dorothy and her mother, Mrs Carmen Castleberry, have found that stockings last much longer when certain easy-to-follow precautions are taken. Her hints are as follows:

1. Always wash your now hose and let them dry 24 hours before putting them on. 2. Wash-you hose as soon as you take them off. This habit is as easy to acquire as brushing your teeth every morning and night. You will find that washing your hose as soon as they come off makes them last twice as long. The reason is simple; there is a certain amount of acid in everyone’s system. This bit of acid transferred to the hose will work on them and weaken the fibre if the hose are allowed to remain in the clothes hamper for days at a time. 3. Wash your hose in a very mild sgap and then rinse over and over again until the rinse water is absolutely clear. 4. Don’t wring hose cut. Pat them gently on a towel, hang them carefully and away from anything where they might snag. 5. Keep your hose in an air-tight container. This guards them against silverfish, moths, ants and humidity. A coffee jar, painted in gay colours or covered with decals makes an attractive container.

6. This really should be a “first” precaution. Be sure your hose are the right size, both of foot and length. If you wear a garter belt or girdle, give special attention to the length of your hose. Foot specialists will tell you that stockings that are too short on the foot are as harmful as shoes that are too small. In buying seamless nylons, get them a half size larger. For example, if you wear a 9 in regular hose, get a 9| in seamless ones. There is not as 1 much give to the seamless, nylons and the foot part takes up more room.

7. Try to have three similar pairs of hose at all times and alternate their -wear. This way you can not only match one odd hose with another as runs occur, but you will find the alternating routine adds weeks to their life.
