DEATH OF TAURANGA RESIDENT
ASSOCIATED WITH CITRUS INDUSTRY
MR SAMUEL N. WHITAKER
Mr Samuel Norman Whitaker, who since 1936 had been connected with citrus growing in Tauranga, has died, aged 68 years. He was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, a member of a well-known engineering familv. He went to Australia early in 1915 in charge of railway construction, and served in the First World War as a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers.
Since his arrival in New Zealand in 1936, when he took up residence in Roberts Street, Tauranga, Mu Whitaker has shown a keen interest in questions concerning the citrus industry, and was a member of the Bay of Plenty Citrus Growers' Association. The late Mr Whitaker is survived by his wife, a son, Mr S. H. Whitaker, an orchardist of Otumoetai, and a brother, Mr Sydney Whitaker, of Auckland.
