No New Cases In Auckland

Tauranga-Thames Situation Remains Unchanged

A boy of 13 from Horotiu who was admitted to the Waikato Hospital last Monday suffering from infantile paralysis died during the week-end. This was the second fatal case in the South Auckland health district. The first victim was a child of three months from Taupiri, who died on Friday. No new cases were reported in the central Auckland health district during the week-end and no suspected cases were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. There were 51 positive and three suspect cases in the hospital last night. Seven positive, cases have been reported during the past week, compared with six the previous week and 11 the week before. Four positive cases were discharged last week, bringing the total number of cases discharged to'2s, and six patients were transferred to other hospitals. The total number of cases in the district since the outbreak began on November 15 is 90.

Two further suspected cases have been admitted to the Waikato Hospital. One is a boy of two years from Morrinsvilie and the other a woman of 24 from Te Kauwhata.

The number of positive cases of infantile paralysis reported since the outbreak began has now reached 146.
