Inter-Club Tennis An inter-club tennis match played at Te Puna recently resulted in the Railway Tennis Club's team defeating the Tc Puna club by 18 sets to 14. Open Shoot In Tauranga An open shoot, to which it is hoped to attract sportsmen from throughout the Auckland Province, will be held by theTauranga Gun Club in Tauranga during December. A trophy event will be included in the shoot, which is the first of its kind since pre-war years. Choosing Careers A booklet entitled "Next Year?" has been issued by the officers of the Vocational Guidance Centre, in collaboration with the post-primary schools, under the authority of the Education Department. It contains information helpful in the choosing of careers, and the courses which must be studied for the various callings. Facilities For Shooting With improvements which had been made to the trap-house and the laying of five concrete tracks, the Tauranga Gun Club was now in a better position to hold open shooting competitions-, said the president (Mr E. Tanner) when presenting a review of last season's activities at the annual meeting. 307,138 Parcels For Britain Fifteen vessels carrying 307,138 individual food parcels, weighing 2,903,2251 b, are now on their way to the United Kingdom. The Post-master-General, Mr Hackett, said yesterday that the majority of these parcels would be delivered before Christmas. Russia And Whaling There was every indication that Russia would enter into the international covenant to conserve the supply of whales, said Dr. R. C. Murphy, the American ornithologist and lecturer in natural history, in an interview in Dunedin. In contrast with her attitude in the United Nations, Russia was showing every sign of agreement in the negotiations now being conducted. Dried Butter-Milk For the purpose of manufacturing dried butter-milk powder, the Morrinsvillc Co-operative Dairy Company, is building a new factory which adjoins the company's butter factory. At present the butter-milk is utilised for pig feeding. The company is spending about £15,000 on the project and expects to manufacture between 300 and 400 tons of dried butter-milk yearly. Control And Production Concern was voiced at a recent meeting of the executive of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce at what appeared to be a measure of credit control exercised by the Reserve Bank over trading banks, and the opinion was expressed that such control might adversely affect production in the Dominion. It was decided to request the Associated Chambers of Commerce to investigate the position. Reduced Petrol Quotas "Advice of their quotas of petrol for each month from now until April has reached resellers, and on the face of it the cuts seem to be very heavy in March and April," said Mr V. D. Edwards, secretary of the Retail Motor Trade Association in Auckland, when asked yesterday to define the extent of petrol rationing. He added that quotas for November and December were almost the same as for last year, but from January onward they declined progressively.
