COLLECTIONS IN SCHOOLS
HELPING WORTHY CAUSES
DISCUSSION BY TE PUKE WOMEN'S ORGANISATION
; (Times Correspondent)
The question of allowing collections to be made in the primary schools for worthy causes, was raised by Mrs Hickson at the quarterly meeting of the Te Puke provincial executive of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Hickson pointed out that there had been complaints from the teachers and the parents about this method of raising funds through the school children for various causes. It was, she added, the parents who actually paid and frequently the same people paid twice for the same appeal. It was the moral issue that some parents did not agree on. Some thought it good for the children to know about and make contributions to worthy causes, whlie others were of the opinion that children had too much money to handle already. It was agreed to hold the question ever until the next meeting. Mrs Milsom, in making the suggestion, pointing out that if the Education Board permitted collections in schools there was nothing the women's organisations could do about it.
