Captain A. G. Hardy, New Plymouth manager for the Waterfront Industry Commission, has been appointed manager of the Northern Steamship Co. Ltd., Auckland. He will begin his new duties on January 5. Guests at the Tauranga Hotel include: Mr and Mrs A. H. Turner Mr T. Page, Mr H. H. Bruickman (Auckland); Mr and Mrs Sneddon (Wellington); Mr M. A. Searles (Morrinsville); Mr J. Herring (Te Aroha). Among the guests at the Commercial Hotel are: Mr and Mrs FraserSmith, Mr and Mrs McLaughlin Messrs Bach, York. Mandeno, Russell and Roberts, Miss Woodhead (Auckland); Mr and Mrs Sewell (Mercury Bay); Miss Collins (Rotorua); Mr Adams. (Mount Cook); Mr H. Gilmore (Gisborne). An announcement that Mr S. H Hunter, retiring president of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association, would be the unanimous choice for president of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation during the coming year was made by Mr W. J. Truscott, president of the federation, at the annual meeting of the association last night.

Mr Hudson Owen and Mr A. C. Wright, who were elected for Te Puke and Maketu ridings respectively at the recent local body elections, both came originally from the same district. Mr Owen, who farms at Papamoa, and Mr Wright, who has been farming at PaengaroaMaketu for the last 18 years, both broke in virgin land at Patamahoe almost side by side, prior to coming to settle in the Te Puke district
