SHEEP INDUSTRY PROBLEMS
APPOINTMENT OF ROYAL ' COMMISSION
(P.A.) Wellington, 'July 30. The personnel of a Royal Com-, mission to consider problems affecting the sheep industry will be announced shortly by the Minister of ' Agriculture, Mr Cullen. It. is expected that the commission will consist of three representatives from the industry, three from the Government and an independent chairman. The order of reference 'for the commission will follow fairly closely the lines laid down in 1939 when it was first mooted, but. its scope has been widened since then. In’ brief, it will cover all aspects of sheep farming, with particular emphasis on high-country problems and deterioration. of land. The appointment of the commissioners has been delayed as a result of the difficulty in finding a suitable chairman. It is understood that approaches have been made to Supreme Court Judges and magistrates without success. Both the Federated Farmers and the New Zealand Wool Board have been consulted.
