PURCHASE OF FAIRMILE
ADDITIONAL CRAFT FOR TAURANGA WATERS
A request by E. G. Williams for berthage space at Coronation Pier for a Fairmile, which he had purchased, was received at the monthly meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board on Monday. Mr Williams who advised that the Fairmile would reach Tauranga in about a month's time, stated that he had sold the M.V. Omokoroa about three months previously and her berth had become vacant.
It was reported by the secretary (Mr W. J. Walker) that the Fairmile was approximately 100 . feet long. It was decided that a committee, comprising Messrs S. F. Newton, P. S. Densem and the foreman (Mr C. M. F. Hayman-) confer with Mr Williams on the question, and report back to the board.
A message from Auckland states that the Fairmile, which has been purchased from the War Assets Realisation Board, is at present- being fitted out there to carry tourists on fishing trips out of the Tauranga harbour..
Two 200 horse-power diesel engines from the Northern Steamship Co.'s coastal vessel Tuhoe have been fitted into the launch, and it is hoped that it will be able to remain at sea for over a week at a time. On completion it will have sleeping accommodation for 20 people.
