NOMINATIONS FOR BY-ELECTION
THREE CANDIDATES FOR AVON SEAT P.A. Christchurch, May IC. With only ten minutes to go before nominations closed at noon today for the Avon by-election, a third candidate entered the iield. He is Mr John Ranby Robertson, caretaker, of Now Brighton, an Independent Labour candidate. Mr Robertson said that if he obtained official endorsement from Mr J. A. Lee he would stand for the Democratic Labour Party. He is president of the Avon branch of that party. The other two candidates are Dr. R. A. McDowell (National) and Mr J. Mathison (Labour*).
