London, Dec. 29
Messages from Cairo say that the Egyptian premier, Nokrashy Pasha, has protested to Britain about a statement said to have been made by Mr Attlee to the Sudanese political leader.
On his return to Khartoum from London, the Sudanese leader was reported to have said that Mr Attlee told him that Britain recognised the right of the Sudanese to decide their own* future. The status of the Sudan had been one of the main points of the discussions in the negotiations for a new Anglo-Egyptian Treaty.
When Nokrashy Pasha became premier he declared that he aimed at unity between Egypt and the Sudan under the Egyptian crown.
