ILLEGAL JEWISH IMMIGRANTS
REMOVAL TO CYPRUS Attempt To Swim . Ashore Participation In Talks On Palestine ... . London,. Sept. 23. The Inner Zionist Council may meet in Jerusalem to-morrow to take a decision on Jewish participation in the London talks on Palestine. A Jewish Agency spokesman said to-day that the incident connected with the arrival of the refugee ship Palmach at Haifa had not made it easier for the Jews to join in the talks. The 700 illegal Jewish immigrants in the Palmach were to-day transferred to a transport which is taking them to Cyprus. A senior army officer .said the transfer went off smoothly. Twenty immigrants who were ill were landed and taken to hospital.. Earlier between 30 and 40 men and women jumped into the water and tried to swim ashore. Naval officers picked them all up. In Haifa itself police fired warning shots into the air to disperse a crowd of Jews who were demonstrating. Palestine police and troops to-day searched several Jewish settlements, particularly around Tel Aviv for suspected terrorists and arms. The committee set up by the London conference on Palestine to go into the Arab counter-proposals has held its second meeting. It is stated to have been very satisfactory. The Chief Rabbi, Dr. Herzog, has left London for Palestine.
