MEYER LEMON INDUSTRY

OFFICIAL’S EXPLANATION HANDLING OF SUPPLIES Speaking at the annual meeting cf the Bay of Plenty Citrus Growers’ Association on Tuesday evening, A. Everett, manager of the citrus section of the Internal Marketing Division, said that he had been asked, while at Kcrikeri, what the Government’s policy was regarding meyer lemons. Mr Everett explained that his personal view was that meyer lemons should he handled by tlie department along with standard lemons. While up to the present time the amount of meyer lemons grown had not been sufficient to influence prices, at the same time a number of meyer lemon trees had been planted in recent years. The speaker thought that when these came into bearing they must prove an embarrassment to the Internal Marketing Department from the point of view of marketing.
