H.UVA! r 1111COMMKN l>K!> Washington, Dec. 22. The Secretary of the Interior, Mr Harold I ekes, to-day recommended that Hawaii should he admitted into the Union as the 4 9th State of America. Mr Ickes said tliat since 1 900 the Hawaiians had heed governed under provisional statehood. They had .expressed a desire for full statehood in 19 40 in a two to one majority vote but implementation was held up by the War Department. The Secretary of the interior added that his Department was convinced that the people wanted statehood now and they had demonstrated iheir eligibility and right for admission into the' Union.
