NEW BOOKS ARRIVE

TAURA XG A PVB LI C LIBRARY GOOD SELECTION New books about the war which were added to the Tauranga Public Library during the last two weeks include -two about the campaign in Burma —"With Wingate in Burma," by David Halley, and "Beyond the Chindwin." by Bernard Fergusson. Other books about the war were by Collie Knox, "The Un-beaten Track," and by W. B. Kennedy Shaw, whose book is about the 1940-1943 campaign in Libya and is called "Long Range Desert Group."

People interested in art will welcome a small book called "Cavalcade of Painting," which contains a collection of reproductions of pictures in the famous London galleries. "Adventures in Embroidery," by Ernest Thesiger, and "Pioneering Ballet in Australia," edited by Peter Bellow, were also added to the art section.

Books in the "Britain in Pictures" series continue to arrive. Two new ones are: "English Letter Writers," by C. E. Vulliamy, who wrote "The Polderoy Papers" and "Dr. Philligo"; and "The Islands Round Britain", by R. M. Lockley, author of "The Way to an Island."

Among the novels were "Rickshaw Boy," a novel of the Chinese-, by Lau Shaw, which was the Book-oi'-the-Month Club selection for August of this year. Nevil Shute's "Most Secret," concerns a small naval operation off the coast of Brittany, and is told with considerable vigour and excitement, although it is not as well written as his '"Pastoral" or "Pied Piper." Other novels of general interest were "The Garden," by L. A. G. Strong; "Time Enough Later," by Kylie* Tennant; "The Elderbrook Brothers"; by Gerald Bullett; "Mad Grandeur", by Oliver St. John Gogarty;- and Ernest Raymond's "The Corporal of the Guard."

The following are some of the detective ration: "Sinister Errand", by Peter Cheyney; "Black Castle," by J. Jefferson Earjeon; "The Case of the Running Mouse", by Christopher Bush; "Enemy Unseen", by Freeman Yv 7 ills Crofts; and "I, Said the Fly," by Elizabeth Ferrars.
