THE HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING

Sir. —Sometimes we listen in to a feature on the radio entitled “When dreams came true.'’ I think I may he pardoned for observing that after attending the above meeting, I really thought that a much-cherished dream-had actually come true. I not only saw a room packed to overflowing with householders, but left with the feeling that the said householders had accomplished a fine piece of work in electing a committee composed in the main of parents of children attending the school. This is all to the good, but we, as parents, must not leave it at that, for if the committee is to function in a manner calculated to be in the best interests of our children, we must be prepared to give it all the help at our command. This will mean at times putting our hands into our pockets to give practical assistance, and I know that parents seldom begrudge giving to anything which they know to be beneficial.

I wish to make but one comment regarding the meeting itself. There was, to my way of thinking, a regrettable omission in the headmaster’s report—no mention was made of the good work done by the leaders of the various religious organisations of the town, in visiting the school and giving talks to the children. I feel sure that parents, no matter what their own religious convictions may be, and even those who have no such convictions, do appreciate the good work done by these gentlemen. However, I hope the omission was unintentional, and trust that the gentlemen concerned will accept these few words of commendation as from the parents as a whole.

Thanking you for valued space, I remain, etc.,

C. BROCKWAY
