AMERICANS IX THE MARSHA ELS
MORE ATOLLS OCCUPIED Washington, April 12. The Americans have occupied four more atolls and Mejit Island, in the north-eastern Marshalls. A Pacific Fleet communique says Ailuk, Rongelap, Likiep and Utirik atolls and Mejit Island have been reconnoitred by American farces and United States sovereignty established thereon. Mitchells bombed the airfield on Ponane Island on Sunday and other bombers dropped 5 5 tons of bombs on four enemy positions in the Marshalls. Wharves, barracks, hangars, gun positions and air strips were hit. A single plane bombed Ulal Island and another strafed two small craft, near Ponape.
