The following is a summary of the latest war news: — MORE RUSSIAN SUCCESSES The latest communique from Moscow gives news of more successes for the jßussians againsfc the enemy defences between Nevel and Vitebsk. The communique says that the Rod Army continued to fight its way forward south of Nevel yesterday and kuore pljafees ewer captured. FIGHTING IN ITALY Messages from Italy state .that bovh the Fifth and the Eighth Armies .continue to battle their way ahead yard by yard in the ■teeth of strong German counterattacks. The Eighth Army particularly is meeting with strong opposition a ml is being called upon to deal with one counter-attack after •mother. These attacks are proving very costly to the enemy. THE SOLOMONS The United States secretary for the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, s nul yesterday that the Japanese airfields on Bougainville Island m the Solomons have been bombed •continuously and not an airfield 0,1 the islapd is serviceable. He believes the Japanese are. abandoning- the southern part of the slants and shifting their men northward.
