SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL SERVICES HELD Salvation Army Sunday School Anniversary services were held last Sunday morning at Tauranga and in the afternoon at Oropi. The services were conducted by Captain Harewood, of Waihi. The congregation at both services was large and aprpeciative, and the singing by the scholars was exceptionally good. Captain McDonald trained and conducted thfin, and the children were a great credit to him. The morning service was commenced with the singing of “When Mothers of Salem,” by the congregation. Prayers followed and Captain Harewood gave the children a delightful talk. The following programme was given by the children: Company song, “Catch the Blessing”; the 23rd. Psalm recited by Valerie Moore; duet, “God Sees the Sparrow,” Margaret Vickers and Ethel Kiddie; quartette, “In the Morning of Life,” by Phillips and the Burberry sisters; recitation, “A Smile,” Max Winters: solo, “Whither Pilgrims,” Valerie Moore; company song, “Sunshine in Store”; Scripture, Matthew 5: 2-12, recited by Dorothy Woods; duet, “Come,” by Roy and Dorothy Wagstaff; recitation, “A Child’s Prayer,” Vera Duncan; company song (in parts), “Fighting for the King of Kings.” Captain Harewood presented the scholars with their prizes and congratulated them on their achievements. Captain McDonald also made some presentations. These were to the teachers and Captain McDonald spoke feelingly on the good work they had done through the year. He said that it gave him pleasure to present them with a small token of appreciation. “Dare to be a Daniel,” sung by the congregation and the Benediction concluded the service. The programme for the afternoon service at Oropi was as follows: Company song, “Purer in Heart”; prayer; company song, “Sweet, Sweet Bird”; Scripture recitation, Nancy Fleming; solo “Spiritual Gardens,” Betty Carter; Children’s talk by Captain Harewood; recitation, “A Smile,” Noel Brown; song, “God Sees the Sparrow,” by Josephine Shanks, Jeanette Watson and Nancy Fleming; recitation, “Thanks for Lovely Summertime,” Graham Fullerton; trio, “Come,” by Enid Wilson, Mona Pritchard and Betty Carter; recitation, “A Child’s Prayer,” Jeanette Watson; duet, “God is Love,” Joy Wilson and Patsy Watson; company song, “Jesus, Blessed Jesus.” This was followed by the prize giving and Benediction.
