Speed of Trains
The Palmerston North branch of the Enginedrivers, Firemens and Cleaners’ Association passed resolutions that owing to the unreliability of the track, rough-riding engines, and working in a state of semiblindness due to dust from inferior coal, the branch recommends to the Government Railway Department that the speed of all passenger trains be reduced to 35 miles an hour in the interests of public safety, states a Press Association message from Palmerston North.
