SEA SCOUT TROOP
FORMATION IN TAURANGA PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD As an outcome of the visit to Tauranga recently of the Dominion Commissioner of Sea Scouts Mr. A. Black, in his little ship Sea Rover, a proposal is afoot to form a Sea Scout troop here and it is to be hoped the project proves to be the success the value of, the movement warrants. For this purpose a public meeting is to be held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening next, December 22, at 8 o’clock and at this meeting it is proposed to form a committee of Tauranga residents to sponsor the more. Already keen interest is being taken in the proposal, and there is every reason for hoping that it will meet with success. A scheme whereby suitable boats can be acquired for the use of the Sea Scouts was outlined by Mr Black in the course of his visit to Tauranga, and it is proposed that two boats be obtained for the use of the lads here. The value of training of this nature cannot be too strongly stressed—the present war has been the means of demonstrating it on countless occasions—and for this reason alone the proposal merits every support. Several of Tauranga’s most' prominent yachtsmen have already expressed their willingness to assist the movement in every way they can, and once the troop is formed there need be no fear that the young fellows who wish to join up—and there are many of them —will be in most capable hands. ■ An invitation to be present at Wednesday’s evening’s meeting Is extended to all those citizens who are interested.
