MURDER IN KHARKOV
London, Dec. 16
Four men accused of crimes against Russian civilians are on trial to-day in Kharkov, which was retaken from the Germans earlier this year. They are two officials of the German secret service, a deputycommander of an S.S. company and a Russian traitor. They are accused of having aided and abetted in the suffocation, shooting, burning and torture of many Russian civilians in Kharkov and the area around the city. Altogether it is known that 30,000 Russians in the Kharkov area alone have been shot or tor tured to death.
Moscow radio, announcing the opening of the trial, said the hall was crowded this morning with hundreds of Soviet workers. The trial began by the reading of the charge which was translated into German so that the German prisoners could understand it. All four prisoners pleaded guilty.
