STRIKE AT MALTA
DOCKYARD WORKERS' ACTION
Rugby, Sept. 29
Dockyard workers at Malta struck to-day following the announcement of the Government's decision on their application for an increased war bonus. Seventeen thousand workers struck for six days last month, but returned to work after a conference had been called by the Governor and Commander-in-Chief Lord Gort.
The Government agreed to increase the subsidies for certain rationed goods in order to reduce the cost of living, and also granted part of the minimum wage demanded. The workers consider the latest proposals still inadequate.
