Big Ammunition Dump Blown Up

London, Sept. 30

In Tuesday's heavy air attack on the Japanese base at Wewak. in New Guinea. Liberator bombers blew up the enemy's main ammunition dump. A big fuel dump was also destroyed. Exactly 24 hours after the raid, which destroyed nearly 60 Japanese aircraft, as well as seven ships in Wewak harbour, another big raid was carried out. Forty Japanese fighters came up to meet our bombers and eight were destroyed. Several of our bombers were damaged but all got back safely to their bases.

In their advance on Finschhafen, Allied troops are now less than half a mile from the base in the north and west and the Australian force leading up the coast from Lae is 16 miles away.
