They sent over dive-bombers, twin - engined bombers and fighters. Washington describes the enemy attacking force as considerable. However, the enemy met with no success whatever. United States aircraft attacked .them with such force that they were not able to bomb any of their targets and were all driven off. Four enemy fighters were shot down. The United States losses were nil. U.S. ground forces have still further consolidated their positions west of the airfield. In further fighting they have killed 300 more Japanese. They also captured several guns, transport vehicles and a quantity of stores.
