RED CROSS SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING OF SEWING CIRCLE The Sewing Circle of the Tauranga branch of the Red Cross Society commenced work after a fortnight’s recess during Christmas and New Year, and the monthly meeting was held on Tuesday. A parcel of bed jackets and 20 knitted articles has been sent to Auckland and 10 pairs of socks given out for prisoners of war. The circle has been granted the use of a shop in Devonport Road and at a date to be announced later will be moving there. A committee has been formed to make weekly visits to servicemen in hospital and distribute small comforts to them. The V.A.D. rooms were open to visitors on Friday afternoon. Equipment for these rooms has been difficult to procure and much ingenuity has been used in improvising some articles. An object of great interest is the life size dummy patient made from rubber sheeting and cut up wool —made to withstand a great deal of washing and bandaging in the training of V.A.D.’s.
