Band Concert
The Tauranga Municipal Band will give a concert in the Domain band rotunda on Sunday afternoon, commencing at 2.15.
Maori Patriotic Carnival. The Maori Patriotic carnival will hold a ball on Monday evening when the crowning ceremony will take place. The function will be held in the Town Hall and an orchestra from Hamilton will supply the music.
Lad Injured. While playing with some other lads at school on Wednesday, a boy named Desmond Poole had the misfortune to be hit in the eye with a missile. He was taken to Hamilton for specialist attention. Enterprising Thrush.
The shortage of building materials is not being allowed to deter a thrush that has been making a nest in a certain tree on The Camp. On Wednesday morning the occupant of one of the houses placed a handkerchief on the lawn to dry. The handkerchief vanished, the mystery of its disappearance being solved some time later when it was discovered in the tree. The thrush was making good use of it. Rationing of Petrol
A deputation from the North Island Motor Union will interview the Commissioner of Transport, Mr G. L. Laurenson, to discuss the petrol ration and, if it is found that stocks of petrol in New Zealand warrant it, the Government is to be asked to allow motorists to purchase petrol to the amounts represented by the full face value of their coupons in bo:h January and .February. This was decided on at a meeting of the council of the union, at which the petrol ration was discussed partly in committee.
Further Rain Light rain fell yesterday, and early this morning a strong wind accompanied by heavy showers was experienced. The rainfall as recorded on the Times gauge in the 24 hours ended at S o'clock this morning was 68 points. Mist obscured the surrounding countryside tbis morning.
