END OF WAR PROMISE TO POLES Addressing a gathering of. Poles in London recently, Mr Arthur Greenwood, a Labour member of the House of Commons, said: "We have not forgotten your "-.."voic -psistance when Hitler struck at Poland suddenly and savagely. You did not cringe. You did not falter. You did not surrender. You fought with the invincible spirit and high courage of a people whose love of indenendence is the heart of their National being, and whose faith in freedom has never been quenched. "We salute your courage, your loyalty, your resistance. We do more. We pledge ourselves that the independence and freedom, in defence of which you took up arms, shall be restored to you. We kept fai h with you in September 1930! We shall keep faith with you in victory and in peace. The United Nations are moving forward for the decisive struggle. Mighty blows are being struck —blows that will be repeated. Hows that will become more powerful and more punishing, blows that will smash Hitler and bring release to his enslaved victims. Hitler began the war on Polish soil. The United Nations will finish it on German soii! And by our victory, Poland will take her rightful place among the free and democratic nations of Europe."
