SLACKS FOR AIRMEN

Traditional dress of the RAAF—bluo jacket and trousers is gradually disappearing in the battle area of North Australia and is being replaced by drab (khaki) slacks and shirts with long sleeves, says the Sydney Sun. The Minister for Air (Mr Drakeford) said it was expected that in the course of time, this uniform would be general in the RAAF in the north. There were two reasons for tllO change, Mr Drakeford added. One was medical. The RAAP'S medical advisers insisted that sickness could be minimised by covering legs and arms as protection against, dengue, malaria fever and bush-sores. The second reason was economy, combined with utility. Gaiters were; also being issued to RAAF personnel in the north to wear with their long trousers and boots of Army pattern. Black instead of tan was proposed. Shoes had been standardised at airman's pattern, to he worn in future by all ranks. Protectors would be fitted to heel and toe. Other dress reforms were being considered by the RAAF, Mr Drakeford added.
