Abattoir Returns The following stock was slaughtered at the Tauranga abattoirs last month, the figures for September, 1941, being given in parentheses: Cattle, 179 head (164); sheep, 680 (438); calves, 8 (6); pigs, 38 (91). A Beautiful Oisplay The many flowering trees iri the borough are now coming into full bloom, making a beautiful showing. There are several large flowering cherry trees in the vicinity of Fifth Avenue and one in Selwyn Street which are particularly beautiful.

Silt in Water The urgent need for the installation of a filter which would in some measure minimise the nuisance of dirty water that often comes through the mains after heavy rain, was raised in a letter from the Women's Representative Committee received by the Tauranga Borough Council at its monthly meeting. The chairman of the Water Committee (Cr. D. Matheson) referred to a statement on the subject made by him at the previous meeting of the council, and it was decided to draw the attention ->f the Women's Representative Committee to this.
