NEW SAMARKAND CANAL
The digging of the second section of the Samarkand irrigation canal, in Soviet Central Asia, has been completed. In one month .about 1000 collective farmers of the Thaelmann and Ossakar districts excavated over 70,000 cubic yards of earth, erected several buildings and dug 30 miles of canal. The Samarkand canal now waters 63 0 0 acres. The land irrigated by the canal will provide potatoes and other vegetables for the workers of the Karaganda coal mines.
