MILITARY DANCE
HAURAKI REGIMENT
Successful Evening
Tauranga’s Hospitality Appreciated
A most enjoyable dance was given on Friday evening in Hayman’s Hall by the Second Battalion Hauraki Regiment.
The hall was gayly decorated with coloured flags, and over the stage hung a flag with the welcome “Haere Mai” across it.
Sergeant L. Goodacre was a most efficient master of ceremonies and George Jones’ Swingtime Band supplied the music. The committee responsible for the arrangements for the evening comprised Chaplain C. F. Dawson, 2nd Lieutenant R. Sinclair, Lieutenant H. G. Keeley, Warrant Officer F. E. Willson, Sergeant L. Goodacre, Sergeant H .Clarke, Sergeant R. Polley and the secretary. Sergeant S. Randell. Due to their untiring efforts the evening was undoubtedly a great success.
The grand march was led by Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs J. R. Bongard. The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs L. R. Wilkinson) were also present.
Throughout the evening refreshments were available, including ice cream, and these were very much appreciated by all as the evening was very warm.
Lieut.-Col. Bongard made a short speech, thanking the people of Tauranga for the hospitality shown to the regiment. Members of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary were responsible for the supper which was an excellent one and a great credit to the ladies.
