IN CHANNEL ISLANDS

LIFE UNDER GERMAN RULE Rugby, June 17. The Channel Islands Refugees Committee has reported that the island authorities are obliged to supply free labour, food and lodging to the Germans. Rationing has become gradually more severe since the occupation. Some supplies have been received from France, but the French are being forced to sell by the Germans. The islanders are allowed to listen to British broadcasts, but, such was German propaganda that they thought the people of Britain were badly off for food and that the bombing there had been worse than it really was. The islanders are surprisingly healthy, though many are now losing weight.
