POLITICAL UNITY
STILL UNDER REVIEW
WELLINGTON CONFERENCE
Wellington, June 17
Discussions between the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and the Leader 'of the Opposition (Mr Holland) on the political unity proposals appeared to take more active shape today, when Mr A. Gordon, presidest of the National party, and Mr IV. J. Poison, member for Stratford, who has been very active in co-operating in the war effort, accompanied Mr Holland to the conference. Two prominent Labour leaders were also present. The conference included three members of the present War Cabinet, namely, Mr Coates, Mr Sullivan (Minister of Supply), and Mr Jones (Minister of Defence). Mr Hamilton, another member of the War Cabinet, is absent from Wellington. The discussions are being resumed this afternoon. It would be unwise at this stage, it was stated, to suggest that the project for an enlarged War Cabinet is acceptable, but the negotiations have certainly taken on a fresh lease of life.
