ENJOYABLE RECITAL

PUBLIC SUPPORT DISAPPOINTS

In the Civic Theatre recently a musical programme of wide range was given by the Arundle Street Septette, comprising four violins, two 'cellos and piano.. By the attendance there is every justification for saying that little interest was shown. However, those who were present thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and it is to be hoped that when a repeat programme is offered the public will make a special effort to be present to hear these talented young people. The small attendance has not damped their ardour. They are studying fresh works so as to always have a good repertoire to draw on. They are part of Tauranga's civic life and willing to help any good cause. Owing to Miss Enid F Anson being indisposed, Mrs Auld, at a moment's notice, sang four songs. Mrs Auld has a delightful mezzosoprano voice and puts any song over in a very artistic manner. The accompanist for Mrs Auld's singing and for the violin solos of Mrs Whitlock, M.R.S.T., were played by Miss H. Harrison with sympathetic understanding. The students played with confidence, and their technique and deportment were a credit to each. In the ensemble numbers they held their part without conductor, giving evidence of their ability. In quartette and quintette playing each performer is a soloist and it is something for Tauranga to be proud of that it has in its midst such an ensemble. The practices are held on Friday evenings at the studio, and anyone interested in the work is invited. The proceeds were in aid of the R.S.A., but unfortunately owing to the lack of support there was a small deficit. Further programmes will be ,iven, and it is hoped by the end of the year to have a considerable sum o hand over* These dates will be dvertised. The committee wish to hank Miss Norris for her artistic decorations, and all who showed their interest.
