Before doing so, Mrs Stenhouse said that though it was not a ruling from head office she felt that it was a wise proceduie attei 15 months of office. The vice-chair-man took the chair and called toi nominations for the office of chairman There was only one nomination,’ that of Mrs Stenhouse, and she again took the chair, expressing thanks to members for their expression of confidence. The secretary reported on a rearrangement for the transpoi t examination, the gradual arrival of uniforms, the indebtedness of the committee to Mrs Bruce Beale, who had made a wreath for Anzac Day, the steady improvement in the standard of military drill, and the success of the keep-fit classes. Another matter brought up by the secretary was the formation of a gardening group, members of which could grow vegetables in unused sections in the town. A registrant had put forward the suggestion, having seen a similar scheme in operation in Auckland, where it was a great success.

The present number of registrants with the Auxiliary is 1137 (Tauranga 690, Katikati 84, Te Puke 289, and the Mount 83). Mrs Christian said a number of the cards were without the Declaration of Loyalty, and the matter should be speedily remedied for every reason.

Mrs W. Hardwick, service clerk and treasurer, read her report. The workers supplied by the .Auxiliary for the food rationing counter had now finished except for one registrant who was to join the permanent staff of the Post Office. A call for clerical workers for impressment business by the Army had been received and dealt with.

Sub-centre reports were received from Katikati, Te Puke and Mount Maunganui, all showing continued progress with their work. Miss Naylor supplied a detailed report on the keep-fit class, showing that 40 were enrolled and more expected to join. In reply to a report from the Canteen group, it was moved by Mrs Beale, seconded by Mrs Johnson, “that it be left in the hands of the Canteen group to organise and launch a sub-group for Maori cooking.”

Mrs Hardley, the Auxiliary representative on the Women’s Representative Committee, gave a report on the last meeting she had attended, and asked for instructions for the coming meeting. Owing to pressure of business, it was decided that in future the full monthly meeting would begin at 11.15 a.m., and the interim one at 1.30 p.m. The monthly meetings are attended by representatives from the sub-centres.
