Foreign Actresses Take Refuge in Hollywood
In addition to Michelle Morgan, is offering refuge to several other foreign actresses. Among them is Signe Hasso, a lovely Swedish girl from Stockholm, who talks very much like Garbo. She is improving her English before they put her into a picture here. Recently they sent her and a camera crew to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, to take publicity stills. Care was taken that Miss Hasso got no glimpse of the canyon until she came right up to its edge—and looked over! Finally, after gaping for a moment' or two at the sight that met her eyes, she remarked: "In Sweden, the mountains —go up!" That's how the sight impressed her. In the classic old story, you will remember, the clergyman wrote home:
"To-day I stood upon the brink of the Grand Canyon, and gazed upon- the greatest of God's wonders." But the Boy Scout wrote: "Today I stood at the edge of the Grand Canyon—and spat a mile!"
