New Army Office Yesterday was moving day. for the Army headquarters staff in Tauranga, which has been given more commodious offices in the Rivoli hall recently taken over by the army authorities. The building in Willow Street which has been used by the staff up until now will, in future, be used as headquarters for the Home Guard.

Whitevvasliing of Kerbs Men were engaged yesterday in whitewashing the, kerbs at street corners for the purpose of assisting pedestrians in the black-out.

Duck Shooting' Season Duck shooting enthusiasts have been busy over the past week preparing for the opening of the season on Saturday and prospects for the season appear to be fairly good. The breeding, season, it is stated, has been a good one and game appears to be fairly plentiful. The pheasant shooting, in particular, should provide very good sport this season, but a final reminder is given to,sportsmen in this district that hen pheasants must not be shot. It is anticipated that there will be a good many guns out for the opening of the season, but owing to the war, it is not expected that they, will be as numerous as in other years.

Bottles in the Sea Travelling 100 0 miles or more on the ocean, a beer bottle has been the means of communication between a Thames soldier and his wife. Private L. E. McDonald, of the 21st Auckland Battalion, wrote a note and threw it overboard from his troopship. The bottle was picked up in February in the Great Australian -"Bight, and the note sent to the soldier's wife in Paeroa. The note was signed by Private McDonald and three friends, Privates E. G. Bentiey, R. Burton, and F. N. Alley of Tauranga, all members of the antiaircraft platoon. Headquarters Company, 21st Auckland Battalion. Another empty beer bottle, with a paper containing the names of 14 sappers of a Forestry Company in the Australian Inmerial Forces, was discovered last week on Muriwai Beach.
