Make-Up Allowed for Sydney War Workers
Sydney women's war organisations do not anticipate any repercussions here from the debate in the English House of Commons as to whether women in the services will be allowed to wear lipstick. • The discussion has arisen over the decision of Mrs Fellowes, assistant commandant of the Red Cross in Suffolk, to give up her uniform rather than refrain from using rasp-berry-coloured lipstick. "A little lipstick is quite all right for V.A.'s, although nail varnish is not permitted," said the acting secretary of the V.A.'s (Mrs Pullman). "We certainly do not intend to lay down any rules in the matter," was th*3 comment of the director of the Wans (Mrs A. C. Gddhard). "The English debate is a storm in a teacup because a brigadier objected and made a fuss. Most men —offitheir best and I don't intend to ask them to go round with shiny faces," ahem to go round with shiny faces," said the organiser of the Women's Signallers (Mrs F. V. McKenzie). "Australians don't make a fuss about such matters. Maybe the debate is just a good excuse for a little relaxation from war problems. Cosmetics applied in good taste are quite 0.K.," said Mrs McKenzie.
