JAPANESE MOVE SUPPLIES LANDED NEAR BANGKOK BRITAIN NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES London, Feb. 19 Between now and Tuesday next three Japanese destroyers will take supplies to Paknam, at the mouth of the Bangkok River, 15 miles from Bangkok, says a message from the Thai capital. The Japanese Naval attache had previously sought the Thai Government's permission for the destroyers' visit. A message from Saigon says further Japanese reinforcements arrived in the cruiser Nagara, including soldiers and mechanics to reinforce the staffs at air bases. It is reliably stated that between 80,000 and 90,000 Japanese troops are at present at Hainan Island and Formosa.
The British military spokesman at Hongkong said: "Despite Japanese assurance, we are not taking any chances. We are making all preparations possible. Hongkong will be defended by all her resources."
