IMPORTANT FORTIFIED POST KEY TO ERITREAN DEFENCES London, Jan. 20. A British victory Is announced from the Sudan, our troops having re-occupied Kassala after raids over many weeks, during which the Italians have been harassed and pursued by our troops. This is the first big victory on this front. Kassala being the key to the Italian defences of Eritrea. So much importance was attached to Kassala which lies in the Sudan, that the first thing the Italians did when war broke out wps to send very strong forces, vastly outnumbering the British, and take it, since when they have been fortifying it steadily.
