YACHT RACING

TWO EVENTS SAILED ON SATURDAY

A light and flukey north-easterly breeze and a falling tide prevailed on Saturday afternoon for the races sailed by the Tauranga Yacht and Power-Boat Olub.

Two races were sailed, a trophy event for Tauranga class boats, and the contest for the Neilson Cup for Idle Alongs sailed by youths under 21 years of age. As many of the boys are still absent from the district on holiday, the number of starters in the Tauranga class races is suffering at the present time, and although only three boats faced the starters for Saturday’s race, the event was full of interest and was closely contested all the way.

A fleet of four boats competed in the other event which was also an interesting one. Rose Marie, sailed by I. Ronayne, winning with 4min. 4 2 seconds to spare. Ronayne han died Rose Marie exceptionally well, the race demonstrating that there are some good Idle Along skippers coming along. Results: Tauranga Class Haerera (G. Ronayne)), 15s 1 Thistle (O. Mackay), scr 2 Rose Marie (I. Ronayne) .... 1 Neilson Cup Rose Marie (E. Ronayne).... 1 Crusader (L. Rundle) 2 lona (W. Sneddon) .............. 3 Cutty Sark (Wilson) ............ 4 ' All the boats in this event sailed off the same mark.
