DISASTROUS FIRE
BIG BLAZE NEAR .. NAPIER
Napier, this day. A disastrous fire last evening wiped out half of Bay View township, causing- damage estimated tor buildings alone at £6OOO. * The drv wooden buildings provided admirable fuel for the flames and with only tank water available, the volunteer fire-fighters' task was hopeless. . ;^ hnil(! p The fire started in a bakehouse and spread to other shops and residences. All the .occupants-of the McHardy estate, Mr John Can baker and storekeeper, Sands and Son, butchers, and R. J- Smith were heavy losers.
