A PAGE FROM THE PAST

Members of St. Peter's Church particularly will be interested in the following account of one of their Church Meetings fifty years ago: Presbyterian Church Meeting

“The annual business meeting of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church was held in the church on Monday evening. There was a fair attendance. The various reports were, on the whole, of an encouraging nature. The average attendance at the services throughout the _year was fully up to that of previous years. The treasurer’s statement showed the income from all sources to have been £193 19s 3d which, considering the general depression was thought satisfactory. “The following gentlemen were elected as a committee for the present year: Messrs Badger, Commons, Henry, G. Hunter, Maxwell, McKay and Miller.

“The meeting expressed its appreciation of the services rendered to the church by Messrs Commons and Maxwell as Treasurer and Secretary respectively, and by Mr Badger for ,the able and acceptable manner in which he conducted the services, in the absence of Mr MacLennan in Katikati and Te Puke. During the past Mr Badger conducted in all about fifty services, in connection with the Church. The statement of the Katikati treasurer was read, and was considered unsatisfactory. A motion was carried that the secretary write to the Katikati Committee directing attention to the very inadequate support accorded by the Katikati congregation, and suggesting the adoption of another method of finance. It as reported by the chairman ■ that services had been commenced in Te Puke which were to be conducted monthly. “Votes of thanks to the organists —Miss Galbraith and Miss M. Maxwell and to the members of the choir, brought the business matters to an end.”
