HIGH TRIBUTES PAID

SENIOR SERGEANT EDWARDS HONOURED BY LEGAL. FRATERNITY High tributes to the work of Senior-Sergeant J. Edwards while stationed in Tauranga, were paid by members of the legal fraternity who gathered on Tuesday afternoon to bid farewell to Senior-Sergeant Edwards who left to-day to take up his new post in Hawera. The gathering which was held in the office of Mr H. O. Cooney was fully representative of the Bar in Tauranga, and Senior-Sergeant Edwards was presented with a travelling bag and case, - References to the high regard in which Senior-Sergeant Edwards was held by all with whom he hgd come in contact in Tauranga a‘nd the fairness with which he had always carried out his duties, were made by Mr Cooney, Mr J. Auld, Mr J. K. B. Lusk and Mr W. S. Holland, all of whom congratulated the senior-ser-geant on his promotion and wished him good fortune for the future. Replying, Senior-Sergeant Edwards thanked the solicitors for their gift and their good wishes. He also expressed appreciation for their co-operation on all occasions, and said that it was with the greatest regret that he was leaving the district. Function at Police Station

On Monday afternoon members of the Police Force in the Tauranga district gathered at the Police Station here to say farewell to Senior Sergeant Edwards. Constable A. C. O’Neill, of Kalikati, on behalf of the members of the force in the district, presented Senior Sergeant Edwards with a set of military hair brushes, and in doing so referred to the fine spirit of comradeship that had always existed between Senior 'Sergeant Edwards and the men under him. They were sorry the senior sergeant was leaving the district, but congratulated him on his well-earned promotion.
