Bradman's "Ducks" Playing his first game in Australia this season at Christmas, D. G. Bradman. the South Australian captain, was caught first ball at Adelaide by M. W.Sievers off the Victorian bowler W. Dudley. In the second innings Sievers bowled Bradman for six runs. At Melbourne on January 3 Bradman again, was dismissed by the first ball he received. The game was in aid of patriotic funds and he was leading an eleven against a side captained by S. J. McCabe. Made in New Zealand. One fo the first gold-producing machines in New Zealand in which the extensive use has been made of electric-arc welding, the Snowy River Gold Dredging Ltd.'s dredge has begun work at Hukarere. Westland, and its future activity will be watched with greatest interest. Constructed at a cost of only £35,000, this imposing all-steel structure was designed in New Zealand, and should it prove as successful as it is expected by the promoters it is likely that future dredges will be modelled on similar lines. Situated in the Snowy River Valley, fringing the Grey-mouth-Reefton Main Highway, approximately 35 miles from Greymouth the plant has sufficient payable ground to ensure a life of between 12 and 14 years. Skirting an area on the south side is the Snowy River, one of the smaller tributaries of the Grey River, which cuts through gold-bearing terraces. Some distance up the valley, a smaller type, of dredge, the Mossy Creek, worked out an area which proved highly payable.
